Estonian-Russian Border Treaty Remains Unsigned
While Russia stalls to ratify border treaty, Estonia grows impatient
TALLIN, ESTONIA
The Russian Duma appears unprepared to move forward in the signing of the Estonian-Russian Border Treaty, and has even gone so far as to blame Estonia for this stall in movement.
Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko has stated that the Russian Federation has “done everything necessary to regulate the situation”, yet she fails to address the blatant reality that Russia has not yet signed the treaty--an essential step in moving towards its ratification.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has also spoken on the matter, emphasizing that Russia will comply once "bilateral relations between us and Estonia become constructive and positive".
As of now the tension between the two sides has not subsided, however Estonia remains firm in their belief that they have provided nothing but good intentions regarding the ratification effort.
